General Information:

The WAA Traveling Fall Softball Program focuses on the introduction of the sport to new players, the development of all players, and the experience gained by playing fastpitch.

Fall Ball Team Creation:

There will be no tryouts for fall ball, however recognizing that team cohesiveness is important in developing players and teams, we will do our best to keep players from the spring season together.

We recognize that during the fall season, many girls will ‘age up’ to a new level (i.e. 10U to 12U).  We will use position need, past player experience, player evaluations, and feedback from coaches to fill in gaps left from older girls moving up.  This means that there are no guarantees that a player will remain with their spring season team.

2019 Fall Ball Information:

All league games are double headers and are posted the Wednesday prior to each scheduled game weekend.

Practices:

Practice schedule will be determined by the head coach, and will be once per week.

All players will need the following:

  • Fastpitch glove (ask your coach on sizing if not sure)

Playing Time

Fall season MMFL rules mandate continuous batting of all players. Unless this rule changes, each player will bat during all doubleheaders, qualifying tournament, and state tournament. All attempts will be given to ensuring ample playing time for all participants during league games. At a minimum each player will play in the field, the equivalent of one complete game during league doubleheaders. During tournaments, players will not sit out two full consecutive games from a fielding position. Each coach is responsible for assuring this happens.

During Fall State Qualifier and Fall State Tournament games, equal playing time or certain position play is not guaranteed. Coaches will use their discretion and previous league game performance to determine the lineup that best suits the individual players and team. Coaches have the authority to limit field playing time due to any one of the following:

  1. Disciplinary action
  2. Player is sick or injured
  3. Player has absences from games and/or practices
  4. Games are shortened due to inclement weather

If a player is going to be gone from any game or practice she must personally notify the coach ahead of time. Failure to do so will result in a loss of field playing time. The WAA Softball Board realizes there may be other sport conflicts during the fall traveling softball season. As this is such a short season, we ask that if there is a conflict that softball be given a high priority. This includes practices, league games, and tournaments.

Coaches

WAA requires ALL COACHES (head and assistant) to become certified through Trusted Coaches.  The certification consists of trainings in First Aid, Concussion, InsideOut Coaching, Child Safety and an annual Background Check.
